Experience the Nile River at its best! This safari adventure takes you to Murchison Falls National Park, which lies at the northern end of the Albertine Rift Valley. Murchison Falls, Uganda’s most favourite park is crossed by the Nile – the longest river as it flows to the Mediterranean. An adrenaline-pumping adventure also awaits you in Jinja with a rafting expedition.
DAY 1 –Arrival in Uganda
You arrive at Entebbe International Airport, located on a peninsula that juts out into the largest fresh water lake in Africa, where a representative or your driver/guide from Uzuri Uganda Safaris will welcome you and transfer you to Airport Link Guest House or Similar for overnight stay.
DAY 2 –Drive to Murchison Falls via Zziwa Rhinos
This morning, enjoy breakfast and commence your 4-5 hour drive to Murchison Falls National Park. You make a stop at Migyera along the Kampala-Gulu road for a chance to stretch your legs. After the break, you will continue to Murchison Falls via the Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary where rhinos that got wiped out in the Ugandan wild are being kept before they are re-introduced back in the Uganda national parks. When you arrive at the Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary, a guide and armed rangers will take you on either a walking/by vehicle safari to look for the rhinos. Once you have spotted the rhinos, you will stay in their presence for a while. You will enjoy lunch within the Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary after, which you will return to your vehicle to complete your transfer to Murchison Falls National Park. You will check-in at Murchison River Lodge (accommodation in comfortable camping tents) or Similar and have the rest of the day to yourselves.
DAY 3 –Morning Game drive & boat safari to bottom of falls
You are up at 6.00 am and enjoy your breakfast. At 6.30 am, you drive out for a game drive for a chance to view the glorious day-break from across the open savannah. Wildlife on the northern bank where you explore this morning has game that includes Rothschild Giraffe, elephant, lions, oribis, waterbucks etc and a variety of savannah woodland birds. At between 10-11 am, you will return to the lodge for relaxation and lunch. After lunch, at 2.00pm, head out for the boat safari to the bottom of the powerful Murchison Falls. This three-hour boat cruise climaxes at the edge of the rift valley escarpment at which point you will get off the boat and trek to the top of the falls. Having worked up a sweat, once at the top, get bathed in the misty spray that the Nile creates as it forces itself into the 7-metre cleft to create the famous Murchison Falls. You transfer back to Murchison River Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 4 – Chimpanzee trekking in Budongo forest
After your breakfast this morning, head to Budongo Forest, part of the Murchison Falls National Park conservation area, for chimpanzee tracking/trekking. Wear your light hiking shoes/boots and long trousers/shirts/blouses. You will be taken on a guided walk in search of the habituated chimpanzee family. Carry your binoculars and also look out for some birds as Budongo is a critical birding place for the Uganda birding safaris. After your chimpanzee trek, you will return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. Dinner and overnight at Murchison River Lodge.v
DAY 5 – Drive to Jinja & visit Source of the Nile
Today, wake up at leisure and enjoy your breakfast. At 8.00 am after breakfast, you check-out and commence your transfer to Jinja – the Source of the Nile. You will have lunch in Kampala en-route before completing your transfer to Jinja 80 kilometres east of Kampala. You arrive Jinja in the mid-afternoon and head to the Source of the Nile for a chance to see the Nile start its 6,000+ kilometres to the Mediterranean. After your visit to the Source of the Nile, you check-in at 2Friends Guest House or similar for dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 6 – Drive to Jinja & visit Source of the Nile
This morning, enjoy your breakfast and head to the rafting place by 7.00am. You meet fellow rafters and guides while enjoying a tea or coffee. After a quick briefing, you will be fitted with life jackets, helmets and other safety gear before heading off 15kms down river to the start point of your adventure. You will receive a detailed safety briefing, before launching into the river for a last bit of practical instruction as you float down the pool. The rafting start point is a flat pool just above the first major rapid. As the river meanders through beautiful scenery, you guide the rafts into the mighty challenges of some of the biggest and safest grade 5 white water rafting rapids in the world. Eight major rapids are rafted plus several lower graded runs; all selected to maximize your safety and fun. After your rafting expedition, you will return to your accommodation for rest and you will have the rest of the day to yourselves. Overnight at 2Friends Guest House.
DAY 7 – Drive to Entebbe & Departure
You wake up at leisure and enjoy your breakfast. After breakfast, you leave Jinja headed to Entebbe airport via Kampala. In Kampala, you can visit the Crafts Village along Buganda Road to buy a Uganda souvenir. Check-out the 1000 Cups coffee shop for you to buy some Uganda Arabica coffee. After your shopping trip, you will continue to Entebbe. In Entebbe, you can visit the botanical gardens or one of the numerous beaches where you can enjoy lunch of a whole tilapia fish with French fries. Later you are dropped off at Entebbe International Airport in time for you to check-in for your onward flight home.
